Job description for Indigenous plants
Weekly
Check the stock to see if anything needs to be ordered. Also check to see that the plants are looking acceptable. The plants generally do not need much maintenance.
Ordering plants
We have two suppliers of Indigenous plants. These are:

There are no specific ordering sheets for any of the suppliers.
Using a laminated ordering sheet (self made), I do my ordering while at the bench. I then transfer that to the computer (excel file), which I then email to either Jill or Samantha. I usually alternate unless I need something I know I can only get from one or the other. The excel spread sheet can be found in Nursery/Indigenous and Habitat/Indigenous tube order sheet
Sections: Ground covers, shrubs and trees, climbers, water plants, grasses, lilies, water plants and Bush foods.
Bush foods: La Trobe can supply Tasmannia (they usually label plants as male or female) and Sambucus gaudichaudiana in the summer.
Other foods I like to keep are; Billardiera for its berries, Carpobrotus modestus, Coprosma quadrifida for it’s berries, Dianella laevis (longifolia) Mentha australis for its leaves, Rubus parvifolius for their fruit, and Yams for their edible tubers. Not all of these are available all year round and the Mentha looks terrible over winter.
Water plants
Please know that any sexy water plants are only at their best in summer. You will be able to get Carex and Juncus etc, but nothing that’s pretty at other times.
Trees
Don’t keep too many trees in stock at one time. In general avoid Eucs and fast growing Acacias. If people want them, they can be ordered. There is hardly any demand for large growing trees. She-oaks are OK.
Price: The usual price of tubes is $3.95. I write the price on the tube with white paint marker.
NEST BOXES

To work out the RRP, add 65% to the wholesale cost , then 10% for GST.
Divide the freight cost by the number of boxes, then the spacers cost and add together which gives you the price.
e.g. Medium parrot box EX. GST is $33.00, add 65% ($54.45), add 10%GST, ($59.89), plus freight ($6.00), and PVC spacer ($2.00), this equals $67.89, so round up or down to the nearest $4.95 or $9.95, in this case $69.95 is the retail price at Baag.
Writing the price on them in greylead pencil, is one way of pricing them.
