Position Description and Objectives

Introduction

Bulleen Art & Garden aims to offer our customers a unique and rewarding experience. Over an extended period of time we have built up a reputation for being a garden centre with a focus on the community, the environment and real gardening. Through these objectives, we try to offer our customers a range of plants that they would not see elsewhere in a range of pot sizes that are good value for money.

As the Greenlife Manager, each decision that you make should be made with the overall goals and objectives of Bulleen Art & Garden in mind. Consider if we are helping to minimise our impact on the environment, if are we helping to build communities and if are we providing a good quality of product at the right price and size. If you are able to juggle the competing requirements of a retail nursery while working towards achieving the overall objectives of Bulleen Art & Garden you will find the role extremely rewarding and fulfilling.
Product Range

We keep an expansive range of greenstock at Bulleen Art & Garden, as the greenlife manager it is your responsibility to maintain and improve the range. The maintenance of stocksheets and plant databases will greatly assist you in the purchasing of plants and the determining of what sells and what doesn’t.

Areas of Responsibility

General greenstock (including tubes)
Indoor
Colour Seedlings
Colour bloomers and bedding plants
Bonsai
Roses
Bare root ornamental stock
Indigenous plants
Aquatic plants
Ferns

As the Greenlife Manager you may not necessarily be buying for each of these areas but you are responsible for the staff who are. It is therefore your responsibility that they are correctly buying and following the right processes. You are required to liaise with the individual buyers for these sections.

Your areas of responsibility in the sections will include:

Margin management
Expenses management (including wages)
Staff resources
Product ranging
Materials handling
Product position and space allocation
Section merchandising and cohesiveness
Environmental Considerations

At Bulleen Art & Garden we try to provide customers with sustainable gardening solutions. As the Greenlife Manager it is up to you to ensure that we are upholding our objectives in the range that we stock.

We have a clear weeds policy (in that we don’t stock any) which needs to be followed at all times, we also try to reduce the number of plants that we stock that require high levels of water or chemical inputs.
